Angelina Jolie, a well-known actress who has received numerous accolades for her performances in both blockbuster hits and independent films, recently shared that she pursued acting as a means of supporting her mother, Marcheline Bertrand, who has since passed away. Despite being raised by parents who were also involved in the entertainment industry, Jolie admits that she has never been entirely comfortable performing on camera.

Angelina Jolie has revealed that acting did not come easily to her and that she only pursued it as a means of helping her mother, Marcheline Bertrand, pay the bills. Despite this, she feels incredibly grateful for the opportunities her job has afforded her, allowing her to delve into different historical events and individuals, as well as discover new talents within herself. Following her mother’s passing, Jolie’s outlook on acting shifted, as she realized just how much the profession had meant to her mother. Even so, she acknowledges that while she may play a range of characters, embodying them is an entirely different matter.

She was only 17 or 18 years old when she was first put in front of a microphone and asked for her opinions, despite not having formed them yet. In the late 1990s, she took a break from acting to study at New York University because she was unhappy and wanted a change. Despite winning Best Supporting Actress at the Oscars for Girl, Interrupted, her love for acting never wavered. During her journey, Jolie discovered a passion for directing and has had tremendous success with her films, including her recent project, First They Killed My Father, which takes place in Cambodia.
