Introducing the adorable Niu Nai, a black cat that is fluffy and cute, with two strikingly different colored eyes! This exceptional trait is due to a genetic condition called heterochromia iridis, which usually occurs in white cats with low levels of melanin. It is worth noting that Niu Nai’s name originates from Mandarin, which means “milk,” adding to the overall charm of this feline.

The owner of the cat, which is named Niu Nai, meaning milk in mandarin, shared videos of the moggy to social media showing its colourful eyes

A proud cat owner, who goes by the username “KinkySexyGeeky” on social media, has captured the attention of many with their uniquely colored feline named Niu Nai, which means milk in Mandarin. This cat’s eyes are particularly striking, displaying a range of vivid colors that have fascinated many. Interestingly, just like human skin color, a cat’s eye color is determined by melanin. When kittens are born, they typically have blue eyes, but as they mature and melanin moves to their irises, their eye color changes. By the time they’re around 12 weeks old, their final eye color will be set. Depending on the level of melanin, cats can have blue eyes, or a combination of blue, yellow, green, or brown. In a video posted by Niu Nai’s owner, the unique shape and size of its eyes can be seen in different lighting conditions.

Known as heterochromia iridis, or odd-eyed, the condition is passed down through genes and usually affects white cats as it's connected to low melanin levels

Heterochromia iridis, or odd-eyed, is a genetic trait commonly found in white cats. The condition is caused by low levels of melanin, which affects the color of the iris. As the cat’s pupils dilate, the amount of color visible decreases. A delightful video shows an odd-eyed cat indulging in a warm bath. Certain breeds like Persian, Turkish Angoras, and Sphynx are more prone to having different-colored eyes. In some Instagram posts, a blue eye may appear red due to the melanin layer that filters out some colors of light, resulting in a red-eye effect in photos.

As its pupils dilate the amount of colour that can be seen lessens. And in one adorable clip the cat is seen enjoying a warm bath

In a delightful video capturing a feline enjoying a soothing bath, it’s evident that the cat’s capacity to perceive colors diminishes as its pupils dilate.
